¡¡Hola PyLadies!!
Jimena is a Geomatics Engineer who has worked for different companies and organizations in technical and management roles. She started her PhD in 2011, which took her to The Netherlands where she had lots of fun researching about VGI, geodata integration, and geosemantics. Then, she moved to Newfoundland&Labrador, where she never finished her PhD but did other fun things. Before she joined CARTO in 2017 as a Sales Engineer, Jimena co-founded an Engineering firm and a tech NGO, to help spread the use of FOSS4G and maps in cultural and humanitarian projects. She is interested in climate and social justice activities, and she loves soccer and horses.
Elena Tomás Herruzo works as Data Scientist at BBVA Data & Analytics. She holds a PhD in Physics of the Condensed Matter from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. Before joining BBVA she was specialised in mathematical models for nano-mechanics. At BBVA Data & Analytics, she has worked in the creation of a large network of relationships between client and non-clients from both public and private records. Her recent research focuses on financial networks and complex systems, where she’s involved in projects related to the dynamics of contagion processes in corporate networks. It’s mainly focused on helping BBVA to add relational data and graph analytics tools to their Risk, Fraud and AML analytics to improve the model performance.
Born in Caracas and raised between Orlando and Miami, technology sparked her curiosity since she first heard the dial-up modem squeal. Now she satisfies her curiosity every day working as a fullstack developer at CARTO where she describes the technology as “complex and challenging in the most satisfying way”. To her, the main asset of the company is definitely the team “they are the nicest most brilliant brilliant people I’ve ever worked with, I never thought it was possible to learn so much every day”. In her spare time she likes to work on small side projects and to take care of her tiny kittens.
